manipulate Visual Theatre Festival arrives at the Traverse this week

Creeping ever closer through the damp darkness of Edinburgh in January, the 11th manipulate Visual Theatre Festival arrives on our doorstep on Saturday 27 January, bringing with it the most intense, bizarre and gloriously off-beat visual theatre, puppetry and animation.

Enter a vivid and captivating world showcasing the finest talent from Belgium, France, Germany, Israel, Italy and the USA, as well as a strong selection of Scottish work.

The festival has always supported the work and creative development of Scottish theatre makers, showcasing their work at all stages of its evolution. We are especially looking forward to seeing productions created by Company of WolvesOceanallover, Ramesh Meyyappan, as well as a special edition of Clown Cabaret.

This year for the first time all of the animated films screenings will be presented together on the festival's opening Saturday (27 January), offering an immersive opportunity to enjoy a wide-range of eclectic contemporary animation from around the globe. As well as featuring dynamic abstract visual art in motion, festivals' retrospectives, puppets to music and an audience choice feature, we are delighted to welcome appearances and curated programmes by eminent international animators Alberto Vazquez and Ülo Pikkov.
