Class Act Mumbai
16 June 2017 ← return to listing
We are excited to announce that the Traverse Theatre will be
working in partnership with RAGE Theatre, Mumbai to bring the
Traverse's flagship education project, Class Act, to
Mumbai in January 2018.
Celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2016, Class
Act is proud to bring together young people from diverse
backgrounds and challenge them to become playwrights, having
previously delivered the project in Scotland, Moscow and the
Ukraine. Under the mentorship of professional playwrights, these
young people are challenged to develop and write brand new scripts
to be premiered on the stage.
Class Act Mumbai will see Scottish playwrights and
directors collaborate with Indian artists to inspire school-aged
young people in Mumbai to write their own short plays. Through a
series of playwright-led workshops and script development, the
project will provide an innovative creative learning experience,
promote cultural collaboration and deliver Class Act's
mission of advocating access to the arts for all.
Sunniva Ramsay, Traverse's Creative Producer (Learning)
'Class Act is a truly inspiring
project bringing together young people and professional artists.
What remains the most exciting part for me, is seeing how the young
participants shape the project and make the experience truly unique
to them. We greatly look forward to hearing what the young people
of Mumbai want to tackle, reflect and respond to and we're
delighted to be working with RAGE Theatre, to bring the young
people of Mumbai's voices' to the stage.'
We look forward to revealing more details in the coming months.
For now, you can find out more about Class Act here. And watch a short film
featuring pupil playwrights and artists talking about the Class
Act experience here.
Class Act Mumbai is part of the British Council's
UK/India 2017 Season and is supported by the British Council,
Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government.
