ADMINISTRATOR

The Traverse Theatre is currently looking for an enthusiastic and highly self-motivated Administrator to provide crucial support and service to the team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in all general office duties as well as maintaining excellent communication systems throughout the building.

You will be expected to provide support for various departments, including but not limited to: IT and maintenance services for the Traverse building; Visiting Company contracts and settlements; hires and events; and assisting with diary planning and travel and accommodation arrangements for all Theatre requirements.

The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills. They will be confident in their ability to be a strong ambassador for the Traverse, with outstanding computer literacy and reception skills. They will have keen attention to detail and a helpful, approachable demeanour.  

This candidate will be approachable and pro-active; rising to anticipate needs and act as the lynchpin of the Traverse network. They must also be able to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, working to a high standard whether alone or a team and always prepared to meet new challenges head-on.

An interest in the arts and an eagerness to engage with the inner workings of the New Writing scene would be an advantage.

FESTIVAL TECHNICIAN

The Traverse Theatre is currently looking to appoint aFestival Technicianfor the Fringe Festival period in August to be responsible for the smooth turnarounds and operation of shows in either of our Theatre spaces.  As a team the Festival LX Crew will be turning round all of the technical aspects of the productions in both theatres including lighting, sound and AV.  The Festival LX Crew may also be needed to operate shows as required.  The role is a physical one with some lifting and carrying.  Working knowledge of theatre is essential as is the ability to work under pressure.

As a team of 6 the Festival LX Crew will report to the Chief Electrician.

Excellent time management is essential as well as the ability to prioritise, work to deadlines and delegate appropriately.  Along with your excellent communication skills you will be a team player with a positive, can-do attitude.

The working week will be 48 hours with one day off per week. Any additional hours will be paid at single time. The contract will run from late July to 28th August 2016 with the possibility of an additional 2 day get out and the end of the engagement. This role is not suitable for anyone with other festival commitments.

TRAVERSE THEATRE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR BURSARY SUPPORTED BY THE SALTIRE SOCIETY TRUST

The Traverse Theatre is delighted to be working with the Saltire Society to offer a bursary-funded nine week Assistant Director placement with the Traverse Theatre, across Autumn 2016.  In the year of its 80th anniversary, the Saltire Society, supported by the Saltire Society Trust, is working with the Traverse to create a new opportunity for an emerging director. This is one of a series of bursaries as part of The Saltire Society's Inspiring Scotland 80th anniversary programme. The Saltire Society is an independent membership-based organisation committed to encouraging and supporting excellence in every aspect of Scottish cultural life. 

This nine-week placement shall offer the recipient the opportunity to work closely with award-winning director, Orla O'Loughlin, on a co-production between two of Scotland's leading new-work theatres', the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh and the Tron Theatre, Glasgow.  The bursary recipient will gain experience in a professional rehearsal room, working on a world premiere production of a new play by a leading Scottish playwright.*  They will also have the opportunity to work with the Traverse Artistic and Engagement teams, learning more about the administration and infrastructure of the Traverse Theatre's year-round activity. 

The bursary recipient shall gain experience in the following areas:

•       Assistant Direction: Assistant Director to Traverse Artistic Director, OrlaO'Loughlin on a Traverse Theatre Company and Tron Theatre Company Autumn 2016 Co-Production. The bursary recipient will work closely with Orla O'Loughlin during a 4-week rehearsal period, maintaining and noting the opening and 2 week run at the Tron Theatre and helping to facilitate the transition of the production and subsequent 2 week run at the Traverse Theatre.

•       Literary Management:  During the production's run, the bursary recipient will split their time between noting and maintaining the production and working with the Traverse Artistic Team to manage and facilitate feedback on the Traverse Theatre Open Submissions Window.  The bursary recipient will develop script reporting and dramaturgy skills, whilst learning more about the inner workings of a leading new writing theatre.

•       Engagement:  During rehearsals, the bursary recipient will work closely with the Engagement Manager to create and collate educational resources relating to the project.  During the production's run, the bursary recipient will work with the Engagement Manager to offer a range of workshops and complimentary activity to enhance audience engagement in the production.

The bursary recipient will be a talented emerging director, looking to expand their professional experience through an intensive working period working with Scotland's leading new writing theatre.  We are looking for a confident and articulate candidate, with a good understanding of the Traverse and our current work.  The successful candidate must be currently living and/or /working in Scotland.
