Rick Conte holds the puppet strings in Shona Reppe's Cinderella

The Traverse Theatre is delighted to continue its relationship with theatre maker Shona Reppe - following the previous festive family smash-hit, Black Beauty, winner of CATS Awards for 'Best Production for Children and Young People' and 'Best Design' - with a Christmas production of the double award-winning Cinderella  (Total Theatre Award and Ipay Victor Award) to entertain families in Traverse 2.

Reppe's Cinderella beautifully re-imagines the classic fairytale using puppetry, sound and light effects to create an ingenious and magical piece of miniature theatre. This latest staging - running 8-24 December - will be performed by acclaimed puppeteer Rick Conte, marking the first time the production has been performed by someone other than Reppe.

Shona Reppe, Creator and Designer, says:

'This is the first time I have put anyone else in one of my shows, so it was essential to find the right person - and, surprisingly, I am replacing myself with a man, Rick Conte! His track record speaks for itself, and as co-creator of The Man Who Planted Trees and an experienced puppeteer, he was the perfect choice. It's wonderful that the show can continue on without me as the performer - what's more, seeing a man tell the story of Cinderella gives it an interesting new tone. My version of Cinderella is well and truly rooted in the Grimms' fairytale, which I hope will prove a special treat for theatre goers this Christmas - a fun, atmospheric and magical family show that will please the adults as much as the children. Cinderella has toured all over the world so it's a great pleasure to bring it to the Traverse; I am as proud of the show today as I was when I premiered it back in 2002.'
