CATS 2025: Traverse productions WIN two major categories

News 10 Jun 2025

The Traverse Theatre won two of the top gongs at the Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland 2025 on Sunday 8 June.

Douglas Maxwell was awarded Best New Play for So Young - his second year in a row since the success of 2024's The Sheriff of Kalamaki. The production was produced by the Traverse Theatre and Raw Material in association with the Citizens Theatre - and will be returning to the Traverse due to popular demand this autumn.

The Best Director award went to Andrew Panton for A History of Paper, a Dundee Rep and the Traverse Theatre co-production, which had its world premiere at Traverse Festival 2024.

"It was a thrill not only host the CATS Awards, but come home with two awards," said Linda Crooks, CEO & Executive Producer of Traverse Theatre. "This year's nominees showcased some of the best theatre talent Scotland has on offer, so it's always an honour to be recognised.

"These awards represent the hard work and creativity of everyone involved in these productions. As a team, we've felt energised by these wins to continue doing what we do best - developing new and innovative works that inspire our audiences."
