Associate Director

We are currently seeking to appoint a full-time Associate Director to support the work of the Artistic Director and to assist in the delivery of the Traverse Artistic and Business Plans. 

The Associate Director will be a key member of the Traverse Artistic/Producing team and will be responsible for devising, supporting and delivering a range of artistic work.  Working in close collaboration with the Traverse producing, engagement, production, administration and marketing teams, the Associate Director will champion the brightest talent to create powerful contemporary theatre with international impact and diverse reach.

The successful applicant will have proven experience of developing and delivering outstanding new writing productions for main stage and studio spaces as well as a track record of directorial success of new work for the stage. Exceptional dramaturgical skills will be matched by excellent knowledge of contemporary theatre. Experience of developing and running a range of engagement projects is essential as is experience of developing artistic partnerships and collaborations. Experience of programming and fundraising would be advantageous.

The Associate Director will be expected to have an excellent level of financial awareness and must be able to demonstrate an ability to plan and deliver complex events and projects effectively. With a track record of managing budgets and line-management of staff they should also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They must be self-motivated and have the ability to manage a demanding and varied workload with initiative and imagination.

This is a permanent full-time position which will require rigorous time management and a high level of planning skills. A flexible approach to working hours is essential and the post will also require regular travel around Scotland and the UK and may provide opportunities for international travel.

This appointment is subject to a six month probationary period.
