Non-Executive Director

Traverse vision: To champion creative talent by placing powerful contemporary theatre at the heart of cultural life, in order to reflect the times, challenge the status quo and transform lives. The Traverse has an established successful track record as a new writing producer, dedicated to developing new plays, curating a year-round programme of visiting companies and working in partnership with specialist festivals such as manipulate, Chrysalis and Edinburgh International Children's Festival. The company also produces a celebrated creative learning programme. The theatre's strong profile offers opportunity for fresh talent within the Edinburgh Festival Fringe each August, showcasing world premieres when the eyes of the cultural world are on Edinburgh. The Traverse wants to appoint individuals to its Board who have an understanding of the cultural and charity sectors, with specialist skills in HR/Legal, Digital Media, Finance and Cultural Leadership.

How to apply:  The Board of Trustees meets 4 to 5 times a year and there is an expectation that Board members will attend events and activities as well as to advocate for the organisation when appropriate.

Festival Press Ticketing Assistant (temporary)

We are currently seeking to appoint a temporary Press Ticketing Assistant to be responsible for the organisation and communication of press and media tickets during the Fringe Festival 2017.

Your outstanding communication and interpersonal skills will be matched by your excellent organisation and time management.  You will be highly computer literate with  particular expertise in Microsoft Office and database management.  A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential whilst also being able to work effectively to tight deadlines.  Experience of working in the arts and prior box office experience, whilst not essential, would be an advantage.

This is a temporary, full-time position from 27 July to 20 August 2017.

Festival Box Office Assistants (temporary)

We are currently seeking Box Office Assistants (Temporary) for the Fringe Festival 2017. Hours of work will be around 35 hours per week including weekend, daytime and evening work from week beginning 24th July to the 27th August 2017.

In-house Festival Photographer

The Traverse Theatre is on the hunt for a dynamic in-house photographer to cover a wide range of productions and events during the Traverse Festival 2017. Applicants do not need to have had formal training or currently be a professional photographer, but instead must be able to show a range of previous work to demonstrate their ability, as well as be able to provide their own equipment.

Previous Traverse Festival photographers include Mihaela Bodlovic, who now works regularly throughout Scotland, and who commented:

'The Traverse is well-known for its open minded attitude to new writing and its tradition of launching young writers, but that's really not where its generous support stops. I can honestly say working for the Traverse in 2015 has been the turning point in my career, helping me gain the confidence and the contacts to embark on a career as a freelance arts photographer. The Traverse is host to some of the most sublime theatre at the Festival every year and it's a total privilege to be there to capture it, both on stage and off stage. Artistic Administrator

We are currently looking for a highly organised and experienced Artistic Administrator to support the work of our Artistic and Producing departments by providing effective and efficient administration services and ensuring clear communications.

The successful candidate must have a passion for theatre and with proven experience of delivering new writing projects.  You will show sound financial awareness and must have a track record of managing budgets efficiently.  First class communication and interpersonal skills are a must as well as experience of negotiating and creative problem solving.  In additional you must have experience of setting up and maintaining databases and administrative processes with the ability to plan and deliver events and projects effectively.

A self-motivator you must also be able to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, working to a high standard whether alone or as a team member and always prepared to meet new challenges head-on.

This is a permanent, full-time post with a probationary period of six months.

Chef (Part-Time)

We are currently seeking to appoint a part-time Chef to join our existing team and assist in the day to day running of our kitchen, producing a range of quality food for the Traverse Bar Café and Traverse Coffee Shop.

Candidates must have experience of working in a busy kitchen environment, food preparation, service and maintaining all kitchen areas and equipment to the highest standards of cleanliness.  Experience of supervising a small team of staff would be a definite advantage.  If you fit this description and are hardworking, reliable, with a keen interest in food then we are looking for you. 

We can offer an immediate start to the successful candidate.  This is an open-ended position with a probationary period of six months.  There are no guaranteed minimum hours however we expect to be able to offer an average of 16 hours per week.  Working hours will include early mornings, evenings and weekends.
