Were there ever three musicians better placed to perform the full broad and colourful sweep of European Folk Music?

As it's something that appeals in the same way to each of them, Firelight Trio are able to stoke the inner glow as they lead us on an exhilarating jaunt from Scotland’s glens and isles through France’s majestic countryside to the glorious Balkan hillsides, and Scandinavian landscapes, all topped off with a tasty garnish of irresistible Kletzmer. On tour here in support of a brand new album released at the start of the year.

It is breathtaking stuff performed with masterclass panache and smile-inducing, very natural polish. They light up the room; you'll see everyone smiling at the same time.

If multi-instrumentalist RUTH MORRIS isn't on playing duties with various different outfits, it's likely you'll find her lingering in the wings as musician for a big TV drama production. Most recent work includes being an on-set contributor to the HBO series ‘Outlander’, and playing nyckelharpa on the soundtrack of the Netflix film ‘Outlaw King’. Partner of respected fiddler and creative force Gavin Marwick (see below) they are also involved in many other projects.

GAVIN MARWICK is as busy as any musician could ever hope to be, and has played in Europe, North America, Asia, Australia and Africa. As well as appearing with many different bands over the years, including Iron Horse, Cantrip, Up In The Air and Ceilidh Minogue. As a session musician he has performed/recorded with The Unusual Suspects, Session A9, Wolfstone, Shooglenifty, New Celeste and Malinky.

PHIL ALEXANDER studied at Goldsmiths College with John Tilbury, and has a PhD in Ethnomusicology. Besides leading Scotland’s top world-folk outfit Moishe’s Bagel, he has collaborated with a whole bunch of UK-based musicians, including the jazz tango trio Tangalgo, McFall’s Chamber, harpist Catriona McKay and many more. For several years he was a central part of the internationally-acclaimed Salsa Celtica.
