“Quite extraordinary… Nimbus Sextet has caught our attention in a big way” – JAZZ FM
Nimbus Sextet, one of the most innovative groups in the new wave of UK jazz, is on tour with the promotional campaign for their critically acclaimed second album, Forward Thinker, released on Acid Jazz Records. Jazzwise Magazine called the release “a very accomplished record”.
Performing in the UK and Europe’s top jazz venues, the band have firmly established themselves as an increasingly major voice in the vibrant European jazz scene. The Nimbus sound comes courtesy of bandleader and primary composer Joe Nichols (keys/harmonica), Alex Palmer (drums), Euan Allardice (trumpet), Michael Butcher (Saxophone), Honza Kourimsky (guitar) and Stephen Jack (bass).
Both Forward Thinker and Nimbus Sextet’s first release – Dreams Fulfilled (2020) – have garnered global acclaim from the likes of Jazzed, Clash Magazine, Jazzwise and BBC Radio 6 Music. Jazz FM are major supporters of the band, awarding both of their albums the prestigious Album Of The Week accolade upon release. Forward Thinker has gained significant support in France, where it was championed by Vincent Caffiaux (Montreux Jazz Festival, Qwest TV) in Star Wax Magazine.
Mainstays at the Scottish jazz festivals and performing in the UK and Europe’s top jazz venues, the band have also joined the likes of Nubiyan Twist,Cykada and Youngblood Brass Band on recent tour dates. Their first UK tour took place in February/March 2020, ending in a sell-out performance at Servant Jazz Quarters in London.
More recently they enjoyed a sold-out concert at Glasgow Jazz Festival and a UK tour this summer. This follows hot off the heels of their packed out debut performance at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London in January 22.
