About

“The Kjetil Mulelid Trio plays lyrical, ballad-oriented jazz, and they’re not afraid to play pretty.” - The Absolute Sound

The Kjetil Mulelid Trio released their debut album in late 2017 on Norway's prestigious Rune Grammofon records, a label that stands for the best experimental electronic, jazz and improvised music from Scandinavia. The trio have since their first release marked themselves as some of Norway's foremost jazz musicians with a busy concert agenda in much of Europe. Their acclaimed sophomore album What You Thought Was Home, was released in August 2019, and this year their third album came April 2022, both on the same record label.

Pianist Kjetil Mulelid’s compositions expertly balance the energetic, rhythmically complex and harmonically rich music with beautiful, evocative melodies.

The trio have been heavily praised in magazines such as The Wire and The New York City Jazz Record. Jazz FM host Jez Nelson mentioned them as Best Band in 2018. Before the pandemic put them on hold they were busy around Europe playing concerts in Portugal, the Stockholm jazz festival, sold out Vortex Jazzklubb in London, City Universitet Jazz Festival in Paris, Jazz Schmiede in Düsseldorf, the Tromsø Jazzfestival, the Southport Jazzfestival, and loads of other concerts around in Japan, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Estonia and in Scandinavia.
