"He's got rhythm of every variety ... trickles of rhythm seeping into all the cracks and at regular intervals he changes the rhythm, pouring it out or stoppering it, turning its emphasis around, subdividing or refocusing it and making it follow the melody." - Ben Ratliff New York Times
Ari Hoenig is a ground-breaking drummer, composer and educator who has become one of the most significant and influential voices in the jazz and drumming world over the last two decades. This autumn he leads his trio in a highly anticipated collaboration with prodigious pianist Nitai Hershkovits and rising guitar star Tom Ollendorff.
Ari is known for his unusual and intense approach to drumming emphasising complex rhythms in direct harmony with other group members. He is widely noted particularly for his drumming not being relegated to just keeping tempo, or being a side issue to the music he plays in, but rather for elevating drumming as an indispensable part of the performance.
For over 20 years he has fronted groundbreaking groups that have changed the landscape of modern jazz. He has worked alongside musicians including Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joshua Redman Elastic band, Wayne Krantz, Mike Stern, Richard Bona and Pat Martino.
