A Good Night Out: Scenes from John McGrath’s Theatre Manifesto
Writer and theatre-maker John McGrath’s A Good Night Out is a radical manifesto for the possible future of theatre. Influential on Scottish theatre makers since it was first published in 1981, it is a rallying call for a revolutionary, compassionate and challenging theatre culture that centres audiences of all types in both content and form. It questions the theatre establishment’s approach to audience, calls out presumptions about class and theatre-going, and suggests how theatre could develop to be more inclusive, as well as more authentic - questions as resonant today as when it was first published.
Join us as leading Scottish theatre makers Debbie Hannan, Natalie Ibu and Nicola McCartney each read, live, a favourite chapter from this seminal book from the iconic stage of Traverse 1, bringing to new life the questions it poses.
