Jakub Klimiuk Quintet
About
An accomplished London-based guitarist and composer, Jakub Klimiuk takes his quintet on tour with a brand new set of material - a follow-up to the critically acclaimed album ‘(un)balanced’, described by The Guardian as “a rare mix of New York edginess and Scandinavian avant-jazz impressionism.”
Expect a thrilling combination of scripted forms and improvised sections, interweaving melodic compositions with adventurous sonic explorations - “music which could engage and transcend genre boundaries,” according to UK Jazz News. The quintet has appeared regularly at major UK jazz venues including PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho, Vortex Jazz Club, SoundCellar, and The Verdict, and has toured extensively across Europe, with performances in cities such as Berlin and Brussels.
Originally from Gdańsk, Poland, where he cut his teeth as a sideman working with some of the country’s top musicians, Jakub moved to the UK to pursue his path as a bandleader. He made his British debut at the EFG London Jazz Festival 2022, performing music from the quintet’s EP “Reluctance”, and has since collaborated with artists such as Mark Lockheart, John Horler, Jonas Kullhammar, and Dave O’Higgins, with performances at major venues such including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. Jakub is an adventurous composer, known for experimenting with form and incorporating techniques from contemporary classical music into his jazz compositions.
Jakub Klimiuk Quintet is part of the Traverse's £1 Ticket Project.
