About

Tradfest are delighted to present a flavour of Edinburgh Tradfest’s second specially commissioned show.

A ‘spring’ is the dialect name for old Shetland dance tunes. This concert brings together Catriona Macdonald and Margaret Robertson, two of the leading contemporary Shetland fiddle players for a celebration of this distinctive and rich fiddle tradition.

Each of the performers are steeped in the older repertoire of these Northern Isles and as composers in their own right. Each are adding their own voice to this living tradition.

Join them for a special pre-recorded gig featuring riotous reels, heartfelt airs and a musical friendship dating back almost 40 years.

Appearing are Margaret Robertson (Edinburgh Military Tattoo), and our show’s curator Catriona Macdonald (String Sisters).

Edinburgh Tradfest Spotlight is supported by Creative Scotland, the City of Edinburgh Council and the William Grant Foundation.
