About

“Taking Rajasthani music to the world” – Times of India

SAZ is a Rajasthani folk music trio hailing from the Langa community of the deserts of Western Rajasthan. The group was born out of the love for their traditional roots, the need to keep them alive and evolve ways in which younger members of their community can learn to take their music forward.

The Langas are traditional musicians trained in a vast repertoire that encompasses centuries-old folk music, passed down over generations. Having performed around the globe, from Jodhpur to Mumbai to Chennai, Hobart to Budapest and the streets of Naples to the Lincoln Centre in New York, SAZ has collaborated with pioneers of various traditions, honing and evolving an artform that is the lifeblood of their community.

Performing together since 2021, SAZ has been rediscovering traditional songs that are rarely heard any more and also writing and creating original music, an uncommon feat in the regional folk music traditions. Their first album, a collection of original songs written and composed by SAZ, as well as traditional songs is set to release this summer. After the tremendous success of Sundar Gori, their first, SAZ has now released three more original songs, Manado Le Gayo, Koel Bai and Halve Chalo.

The trio is comprised of Asin Khan Langa (sarangi and vocals), recipient of the Aga Khan Music Award (2022), Zakir Khan Langa (khartal and vocals), and Sadiq Khan Langa (dholak). The name SAZ comes from the initials of their first names.
