Traverse Theatre Board Member

Jobs

The Traverse Theatre is seeking three new trustees who can bring complementary skills, experience and perspectives to our Board of Directors to support the next stage of the Traverse’s development.

We are particularly interested in people with experience in the following areas:

  • Employment & HR management – experience that can support effective organisational development, people management and good employment practice;
  • Financial management – experience in strategic financial modelling and commercial oversight with the ability to contribute to financial planning, income generation, risk management and long-term sustainability;
  • Writing, directing or creative practice- A writer, director or creative practitioner working within new writing who can bring current sector insight and an understanding of creative practice. This perspective will help inform strategic discussions about how we support artists, develop new work and maintain a distinctive artistic programme

We welcome people who share our commitment to the Traverse’s purpose, can consider different perspectives and contribute thoughtfully to collective decisions. We are actively seeking applications from people whose backgrounds are currently underrepresented on our Board and in the cultural sector. This includes people from Global Majority backgrounds, disable people, LGBTQI+ people, younger people, and people from a wide range of socioeconomic, professional and geographic backgrounds.

Trustee commitment:

  • Four Board meetings per year, generally held quarterly in February, April, July and November, although timings may vary depending on organisational requirements. Meetings typically last two hours and take place in person by default, with online attendance accommodated where needed.
  • Initial appointment term of 3 years, with the opportunity to serve a second term of 3 years.

Remuneration:

These are voluntary roles and therefore are unremunerated.  Reasonable expenses will be paid for trustees living outside Edinburgh.
