A Play, A Pie and a Pint FAQ's

Not sure why we've changed things for this season's A Play, A Pie and A Pint? Have a read through the questions below and we'll provide the answers. We are making the changes to keep the event viable and affordable and to make sure we can carry on delivering everyone's favourite lunchtime theatre in Edinburgh.

FAQ's

Why are you introducing a token system?

We are introducing the token system, because we have had to introduce a price variation to keep the event affordable, and up and running. As costs go up we can’t continue to absorb them so we have created different price bands to keep the event accessible.

Why are the normal tickets more expensive? So soon after the last price increase?

As the cost of the pies and the drinks have continued to rise rapidly over the last few months, we are unable to carry on absorbing the cost. To keep A Play, A Pie and A Pint up and running we’ve had to make the hard decision of increasing the price.

They don't have the pie that I want, can the cost of my pie be refunded?

No, we will be unable to refund the difference, but there is a good selection of pies so why not try something new?

Are there concession rates for tickets?

Tickets are at a flat price, although we have now added the option of buying a ticket to see the play, without the pie and pint, to keep the event affordable.

Can I purchase the ticket and not the food and drink?

Yes you can, a play only ticket is available for £12.

I haven't bought food in advance, can I purchase food now?

No, you are more than welcome to buy a drink from the bar, however, the pies are bought to the numbers of those who have booked to buy them so we cannot cater for buying pies on the day.

Why do you operate different from in Glasgow?

We run in a slightly different way to the Glasgow edition because of differences in the building, the array of pies we have on offer and to keep the event accessible despite rising costs.

Are latecomers permitted into the venue?

No, so please make sure you arrive at the venue in plenty of time.

Is food and drink served before or after the play?

You can help yourself to your pie and drink of your choice before or after the performance.

Can I take food and drink into the venue?

You cannot take food into the venue, but you can bring your drink in in a plastic glass.

How do I get my token?

Your tokens will be handed to you as your ticket is checked and you enter the Traverse Bar at the top of the stairs.

What is included in my token?

You will receive one token for your pie and one for your drink of choice.

What if I lose my token?

Please ask a member of staff to check your ticket again and you’ll be issued with the item from the missing token.
