Continuing on their distinctive mission as contemporary champions of traditional Scots song, Malinky launched their 20th Anniversary double album, Handsel, last year to great acclaim, including a 5-star review in Songlines, who called it, 'one of the standout releases from 2019'.

Malinky's hallmark song-based repertoire is performed by three superb lead vocalists and arrayed with tastefully inventive instrumentation, uniting seasoned maturity with sparkling freshness. With two folklore and traditional music graduates amongst their ranks, the band combines a deep knowledge of tradition with a subtly creative approach, breathing new life into centuries-old ballads from Scotland's north-east, alongside original songwriting and tunes.

Formed out of the Edinburgh session scene of the late 90s, Malinky now numbers two Scots Singer of the Year award winners in its ranks, most recently Steve Byrne in 2019, with 2015 winner Fiona Hunter recognised as the leading Scots singer of her generation, a status confirmed in her featured role in the GRIT Orchestra.

Their current four-piece line-up, centred on the outstanding voices of Hunter, Byrne, and Mark Dunlop, also features award-winning composer Mike Vass, with instrumentation including bouzouki, guitar, fiddle, tenor guitar, whistle, bodhrán and cello.
