We're delighted to welcome three legends of the Scottish folk scene: Iain Macleod, Allan MacDonald and Tom Oakes.
Coming together as The Third Half, they are an unlikely trio of creative wizards presenting new original tunes and rediscovered Gaelic songs. Expect virtuoso playing, singing, and great craic.
Here's some background on the trio for the uninitiated ...
Iain Macleod is a peerless mandolinist and composer best known for his work with Acid Croft pioneers Shooglenifty. He was a founder member and leading composer with the group, helping to re-define Scottish traditional-based music for a new generation. He has played in venues and festivals across the world including the Sydney Opera House, Berlin Concert Hall, Womad and the Rainforest World Music Festival.
Allan MacDonald is a giant of the piping world and a leading light in the Gaelic music scene. He is in demand worldwide as instrumentalist, composer, singer and educator. A winner of the Clasp in 1989 and 1990, his work reunites piping with its Gaelic roots. He is a major influence on a whole generation of musicians and many of his compositions have become a key part of the modern piping repertoire.
Tom Oakes is regarded as one of the UK’s most accomplished and versatile wooden flautists and as a leading DADGAD guitarist and composer. He has spent the last decade ploughing many different furrows as an Irish traditional musician, composer, producer, contemporary artist, collaborator, teacher, event organiser and special needs facilitator.
