About

Catriona Macdonald & Annbjørg Lien are undoubtedly two of the world’s best Nordic fiddlers with a string of credits and accolades to their names.

Probably best known as founder members of international fiddle supergroup String Sisters, their visit to the Traverse is the perfect way to round off a superlative season of Soundhouse gigs in the theatre.

These two master musicians first met as teenagers and have worked together in many line-ups over the intervening decades. Their new band bridges the North Sea and celebrates the vibrant and spellbinding musical traditions of Shetland, Scotland, and Scandinavia.

The fiddles of Catriona Macdonald (Shetland) and Annbjørg Lien (Norway) weave traditional and contemporary tunes expertly augmented by a trio of incredible musical partners. They are joined by the captivating vocals, accordion and electronics of Inge Thomson (Karine Polwart Band), with songs and groove from James Fagan (Kerr and Fagan) on bouzouki and James Mackintosh (Shooglenifty, Transatlantic Sessions) on drums and percussion.

Their performances in Scotland are rare jewels and we are delighted to have secured a date with this superlative quintet.
