About

The legendary Cauld Blast Orchestra, dormant for 20 years, is reborn with a new expanded line-up!

Formed in 1990 for the Communicado show “Jock Tamson’s Bairns”, they took their eclectic hybrid of folk, jazz, rock, and classical to WOMAD, London Queen Elizabeth Hall, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Stockholm Koncerthuset, Celtic Connections, BBC Radio 3 Here & Now (recorded at the Traverse), BBC2 and more.

This performance will feature their “greatest hits”, with many tunes from their two CDs, and other crowd favourites.

The CBO achieved cult status in the 90s/00s, and now head for new heights with its current 11-piece ensemble, including three well-kent young Scots trad musicians.

Karen Wimhurst (clarinets); Anne Wood (violin); Iain Johnstone (piano, tuba, accordion, tenor horn); Steve Kettley (saxes); Rick Bamford (drums, percussion); Alex Hudson Craufurd (bass); Robin Mason (cello); Andy Cooke (African

xylophone, thumb piano, percussion); Gillie O’Flaherty (guitar); Tom Campbell (flutes, whistles); Sam Mabbett (melodion).
