The US author David Foster Wallace was widely regarded in his lifetime as being one of the leading authors of his generation. Though best-known for his titanic, sprawling masterpiece Infinite Jest, Wallace's incisive journalism and gloriously imaginative short fiction have also proved hugely influential. His tragically early death in 2008 at the age of just 46 robbed the world of a singular talent.
Saxophonist and composer Martin Kershaw was keen to mark the 10th anniversary of Wallace's passing with a major new work featuring a stellar line-up of Scottish musicians. The result, Dreaming of Ourselves - In Memory of David Foster Wallace, a large-scale composition for 8-piece ensemble, showcasing a fascinating panoply of styles and textures in fitting tribute to Wallace's literary legacy. The programme will also feature other Wallace-inspired works previously written by Kershaw, newly arranged and re-imagined for this very special concert.
Line-up: Adam Jackson (alto saxophone), Sean Gibbs (trumpet), Martin Kershaw (tenor/soprano saxophones), Chris Greive (trombone), Graeme Stephen (guitar), Paul Harrison (piano), Calum Gourlay (bass), Doug Hough (drums).
