Puppet Animation Scotland
Since the beginning of November last year four groups of selected Scottish-based theatre artists have been meeting on Monday evenings. Using the knowledge and insights of the other practitioners in the room as a sounding board they have nurtured and developed their initial creative ideas, culminating in the presentation of three to five minutes of work at manipulate.
Facilitated by leading puppeteer Gavin Glover (A Christmas Carol & The Tin Forest, National Theatre of Scotland) each group's aim has been to develop those puppetry making and performing skills and expertise most appropriate for their project. Following Testroom the aspiration is that they then will bring their ideas to full production.
THE POST-APOCALYPTIC PUPPET SHOW
The Creative Martyrs
In a post-apocalyptic wasteland three troubadours wander in search of a show, pulling a cart of essentials, their musical instruments and a battered portable puppet theatre. What stories might they tell as they strive to survive?
Sarah, a fifteen year old girl, lives with her grandfather in a tough ex-mining town in Fife. She suffers with bad anxiety. Joining the local boxing club is an act that is laced with significant challenges and tensions for them both.
IN THE DEVIL'S NAME
Isobel Gowdie was a 17th century young housewife from Aldearn in Nairnshire. She is remembered not just for being tries as a witch but for her detailed confession, given voluntarily without torture. What motives made Isobel confess?
THE BOOK OF POONI
Theatre Gu Leòr
Incorporating traditional music and images of the island's stunning landscape, the antics of a real-life mischievious cat, Pooni, who lived on Canna between the wars, will form the basis of a new touring production in Gaelic for family audiences.
Testroom is a Puppet Animation Scotland programme created with support from the National Theatre of Scotland.
