Soundhouse Residency at the Traverse Theatre
Moishe’s Bagel began in 2003, the lucky accident of five like-minded musicians. A shared love of klezmer, jazz and latin music soon saw them onstage at Henry’s Cellar Bar with a few tunes and a lot of enthusiasm. Since then, the band has regularly toured the UK, Ireland, and the Czech Republic, notching up sellout gigs at the Jazz Cafe, Sage Gateshead, St George’s Bristol, Edinburgh Queens Hall and many many more. Along the way, they have managed to record four CDs, earning us a Songlines Top of the World and Sunday Telegraph top 10 world albums. In 2015, they were invited to compose and perform an original score to the Soviet silent film classic Salt for Svanetia. They toured this to five venues in Scotland that year and have recorded the score for a brand new CD.
Moishe's Bagel combines the very considerable talents of Greg Lawson on violin (GRIT Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra), Phil Alexander on piano and accordion (Tangalo, The Waterson Family, Salsa Celtica, Alexander and Maclean), Pete Garnett on accordion (Three Peaks Ceilidh Band, Quirkus, Caper), Mario Caribé on double bass (Graeme Stephen Trio, Playtime Quartet, The Heartbreakers), and Guy Nicolson on percussion (Salsa Celtica, Tony McManus).
