The Traverse Podcast launches with a US election special episode

News 2 Nov 2020

We're delighted to share with audiences, The Traverse Podcast - a bold new series of intimate and candid conversations featuring some of the most exciting creatives and cultural commentators from across the UK and beyond.

The Traverse Podcast is a new series of conversations between the Traverse’s Co-Artistic Director Designate Debbie Hannan and a range of some of the most exciting and innovative theatremakers, creatives and cultural figures from the UK and beyond.

Taking the author Arundhati Roy’s provocation, ‘the pandemic is a portal’, they discuss what theatre and culture means, where it’s at right now, what it could – or should – be, and lots more besides. From internationalism to disability rights, politics to music videos, censorship to signing BSL in a Scottish accent and other, The Traverse Podcast is a lively place to listen, debate urgent and political topics and have a laugh too.

Episodes available so far feature playwright Matilda Ibini, playwright and director Abhishek Majumdar and director Leonie Rae Gasson, with many more to come.

US Election Special - Sarah Kosar

A series of 3 concept podcasts featuring American playwright Sarah Kosaer talking about the US election with Debbie will also be broadcast throughout November. Join Sarah and Debbie for a conversation that starts in somewhere real and ends up somewhere far more fantastical (and some might even say fake?) as Sarah explores her very personal reaction to the US election, with the help of her new puppy, Meatball.

Debbie Hannan, Traverse Co-Artistic Director Designate, said:

“Speaking to artists and guests across every intersection of identity about the future has been illuminating - we have delved into difficult subjects, whilst carving out space to imagine what’s to come. These conversations are urgent, full of humanity and humour, and re-affirm how creativity and culture will be central to our new world.”

All episodes are available on Spotify, Acast and Apple Podcasts and new episodes will be available on a regular basis, with upcoming guests including Bea Webster, Jess Brough and Harry Josephine Giles.
