In Conversation at the Traverse podcast with Julie Hesmondhalgh released

Today, we are excited to release the first of our In Conversation at the Traverse podcasts. Hosted by Traverse Artistic Director Orla O'Loughlin, in episode one Orla is joined by BAFTA award-winning actor, Julie Hesmondhalgh. The episode was recorded with a live audience during Traverse Festival 2018.

Whilst you might be familiar with Julie Hesmondhalgh from her roles as Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street  or Trish Winterman in Broadchurch, she also has a formidable stage CV, and performed her one-woman show, The Greatest Play in the History of the World, at the Traverse during the festival this year. The piece was written by her husband, Ian Kershaw, and for which she won one of The Stage Edinburgh 2018 Awards for her performance.

Speaking on the personal and political forces behind her work and what it means to create theatre today, Julie also discusses the vital need to make arts training and jobs accessible to those from a working-class background.
