Senior Technician
JobsThe Traverse Theatre is looking for an experienced Senior Technician to join our Production team and be responsible for the development & delivery of a wide range of events and productions.
Typical duties include:
- Work on Get Ins and Get Outs, including constructing sets
- Provide flying, including counterweight and hemp flying
- Operate and set-up of sound system and helping to programme QLab playback software
- Operating Lighting and Sound desks during performances and events
- Programming Lighting and Sound desks for Traverse productions
- Lead on updating all Production Health & Safety Risk Assessments
- Under direction of the Technical Manager and Head of Production to be responsible for Production Sessional Staff, Festival Stage Staff and Technicians, Trainees and Placements.
- Carrying out show cover as Duty Technician for performances and events including evacuation procedures
- Rigging of lighting, sound and AV equipment
- Work with other departments to supply PA and AV requirements for conferences and room bookings
- Maintenance and safety of all working areas and equipment used by staff, visitors and contractors
- Undertake duties involved in tours and transfers outside Traverse Theatre and abroad where required
Our ideal candidate will be fully experienced in developing and delivering productions for main stage and studio spaces and installing/operating lighting and sound systems. With a proven track record of working towards staging events in the theatre industry you should have the ability to display and develop good working practices with a team of staff. You must be skilled in the use of QLab sound software, ETC Lighting Desks, working with audiovisual projection equipment and mixing live sound. You must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be a strong people manager.
This is a permanent, full-time position with a 6-month probationary period. Hours of work are 40 per week over 5 days, with the occasional 6th day during production weeks. Hours are flexible and will include daytime, evening and weekend working. Starting salary will be £31,000-£32,000 per annum, dependent on experience with overtime payments as appropriate. Annual leave is 32 days per annum, including public holidays. An auto-enrolment contributory pension scheme is available with matched contributions at 4%.
