Traverse Young Writers is aimed at 18-25 year-olds who wish to develop their playwriting skills. It offers the opportunity to be part of a creative network, where aspiring playwrights can discuss, debate and create great new work.

The course runs in two bookable seasons:

  • Spring (March-May)
  • Autumn (September-December)

In spring 2020, Traverse Young Writers will participate in one-off workshops with leading professional playwrights, whilst working with the Traverse Theatre Artistic Team to develop their playwriting skills. In Spring 2020 the playwright tutors are; James Ley, Douglas Maxwell, Isobel McArthur, Hannah Lavery and Frances Poet. The course will culminate in a Scratch Night of the group’s work.

Booking for Traverse Young Writers Autumn 2020 will open later this ummer.

Course fees: The cost of the 10-week course is £90.

Bursaries: We are able to offer a limited number of bursaries for those requiring financial support to access this course:

  • Bursaries are intended to support those who are unable to cover the course fees. Either the full or a percentage of the course fee will be covered directly by the Traverse.
  • Travel bursaries are for those who live outside of EH postcodes who find the cost of travel to be prohibitive to their participation in the course.

Bursaries are limited, and we may not be able to support all bursary applications.

We would like to thank The Dr David Summers Charitable Trust, The Nimar Charitable Trust, The Russell Trust, The Teale Charitable Trust and The William Syson Charitable Foundation for their generous support of Traverse Young Writers.
