Have a burning question about Breakthrough Writers: Launchpad? The answer may lie within these FAQs. Not covered? Email writing@traverse.co.uk and we’ll help.

1. Who can apply?

Anyone aged 18+ based in Scotland with a passion for writing.

We actively encourage applicants who write in Gàidhlig/Gaelic or Scots, and those from currently under-represented communities.

2. What kind of experience do I need to have?

No previous experience is required to take part. If you’ve got loads of enthusiasm for writing and an idea you’d like to explore as a play, this group is for you!

3. What information do you need for the application?

The application form is designed to take no more than 10 minutes to complete. It asks for your contact details, your answer to two short questions about writing, and a writing sample of up to 5 pages.

4. What can I expect from the group?

Over 10 weeks, acclaimed playwright Stef Smith will guide you through key elements of dramatic writing, such as story structure, creating characters, and finding the story you want to tell. Stef, the Traverse team, and your fellow group members will support you in creating the first draft of a play. We’ll also hear from guest writers, actors, and directors on how they approach working with scripts. At the end of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to share your play draft with Team Traverse for feedback.

5. How many spaces are available on the group?

There are 10 spaces available.

6. How long are the weekly workshops and when will they take place?

Workshops will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm. The first session is February 9th 2022 and the final session is April 13th 2022. All workshops will take place over Zoom.

7. I have a question that isn't answered here, who can I talk to?
