We are looking for actors to take part in Strange Tales, a new Grid Iron and Traverse Theatre Company production.

Synopsis

Strange Tales is an adaptation of the witty, strange, funny and erotic tales written by Pu Songling in the 17th and 18th centuries. Using martial arts, video motion-capture, illusion and puppetry, eight of the tales will be brought to life in an immersive environment created in the main space at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh in an alternative entertainment for Christmas 2019.

Character breakdown

  • ROLE 1 - FEMALE

    A highly-skilled, versatile and physically skilled female performer needed to take on a wide variety of roles, from a ghost to a fox spirit, from a bride to a goddess, from a demon to a grieving wife. Martial arts skills highly desirable, some advanced physical practice essential.

    Must be British Chinese or Chinese, and be versatile enough to move from light comedy to dark grotesque humour to romantic scenes of great delicacy. Puppetry experience would be useful but not essential.

  • ROLE 2 - MALE

    A highly-skilled, versatile and physically skilled male performer needed to take on a wide variety of roles, from a libertine to a student, from a young lover to a demon, from a gentleman to a priest. Martial arts skills highly desirable, some advanced physical practice essential.

    Must be British Chinese or Chinese, and be versatile enough to move from light comedy to dark grotesque humour to romantic scenes of great delicacy. Puppetry experience would be useful but not essential.

Auditions will take place on Saturday 20 July at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh.

REMUNERATION

The Traverse pays Equity Sub Rep MRSL Grade 2 rates and, when appropriate, the Equity subsistence rate for relocation as well as standard travel costs at the start / end of a contract.

Rehearsals and Traverse Theatre performances operate Mondays-Saturdays.
