Class Act

Class Act

I think that in the end, Class Act was even better than I expected because I felt as though I had really achieved something.

Pupil Playwright Leith Academy, 2016

Class Act is the Traverse Theatre's flagship education project, challenging senior pupils from across Edinburgh to become playwrights; creating brand new scripts to be premiered
on the Traverse stage.

In 2017, the Traverse Theatre celebrated the 25th anniversary of the bringing young people's voices to the stage.  Since the project began in 1990, Class Act has

  • Worked with 76 schools
  • Created 1,538 pupil playwrights
  • Produced 855 plays

Class Act Silver saw four acclaimed professional playwrights - Catherine Grosvenor, Lesley Hart, Douglas Maxwell and Nicola McCartney work with 5 groups from Broughton High School, Leith Academy, Tynecastle High School, Wester Hailes Education Centre and The Rock Trust.

The project has involved playwrights such as Stef Smith, David Greig, Nicola McCartney, Douglas Maxwell and Gregory Burke. The plays have been brought to life by actors including Molly Innes, Colin McCredie, Kevin McKidd, Ryan Fletcher, John Kazek, Cora Bissett and Katrina Bryan.
