Class Act
I think that in the end, Class Act was even better than I
expected because I felt as though I had really achieved
something.
Pupil Playwright Leith Academy,
2016
Class Act is the Traverse Theatre's flagship
education project, challenging senior pupils from across
Edinburgh to become playwrights; creating brand new scripts to
be premiered
on the Traverse stage.
In 2017, the Traverse Theatre celebrated the 26th anniversary of
the bringing young people's voices to the stage. Since the project
began in 1990, Class Act has
- Worked with 80 schools
- Created 1,601 pupil playwrights
- Produced 881 plays
The project has involved playwrights such as Stef Smith, David
Greig, Nicola McCartney, Douglas Maxwell and Gregory Burke. The
plays have been brought to life by actors including Molly Innes,
Colin McCredie, Kevin McKidd, Ryan Fletcher, John Kazek, Cora
Bissett and Katrina Bryan.
In celebration of Scotland's Year of Young People in 2018, the
participating Class Act schools will also be included in Class Act
Connect - which gives Class Act pupils an opportunity to engage
with the Traverse on an even deeper level over the school
year. Class Act schools will have access to additional theatre
skill workshops and free tickets for Traverse Theatre Company
productions across the Autumn and Spring season.
