A Salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an
inspiring host, held partly to amuse and partly to refine taste and
increase knowledge of the participants through conversation.

After transforming Traverse One into an astro-turfed garden for
An Argument About Sex, and installing a 60-metre ramp in
Tramway for Slope, Untitled Projects are back, this time
creating a 360° simulation of an opulent Parisian Salon.
The evening begins in the dressing rooms of the Traverse, where
each guest will be costumed in full period evening dress.
This exciting event will see Traverse One transformed into a
space from another era, with specially commissioned chamber music
to entertain.
Invited guests, pioneers in their fields, will speak on subjects
at the vanguard of 21st century thought in science, politics,
technology and the arts.
The Salon Project offers audiences the opportunity to
explore the past while imagining the future, to mirror the
contrasts and paradoxes between the golden age of salon society and
our own era of economic excess.
The Salon Project was devised by Traverse Artist in Residence
Stewart Laing, a Tony award winning designer and director who
recently worked on Ten Plagues for the Traverse.
His Glasgow based theatre company, Untitled Projects has
produced groundbreaking work, including Pamela Carter's An
Argument About Sex and Slope
Hear Stewart talk about his love of period costume, his thoughts on
the culture of conversation and how he developed ideas for this
ambitious work.
We will source your costume from the wardrobe
departments of some of Scotland's most iconic theatres including
the Citizens Theatre and Scottish Opera.
