LINDA MCLEAN: THE WRITER AS ARTIST

A workshop by leading Scottish playwright Linda McLean on visual art as an inspiration for playwriting. This daylong event will commence at the National Gallery of Modern Art
and then transfer to the Traverse Theatre.

Linda McLean’s plays for the Traverse include this season’s Any Given Day, strangers, babies, Shimmer, Olga (from the original Finnish play by Laura Ruohonen) and One Good Beating. Other theatre includes Happy Yet? (an adaptation of four Feydeau plays for the Gate Theatre, London); Word
for Word (Magnetic North); The Last Mission(Edinburgh International Festival); Riddance (Paines Plough, Winner of a Herald Angel and Fringe First Awards); The Price of a Good
Dinner (Derby Playhouse Studio); Like Water for Chocolate (Théâtre sans Frontières).

In 2004, Linda worked with new writers in Mexico City, Teluca and Oslo. She works in schools, encouraging young writers to find their own voice in their own tongue, and was Writer in Residence at Troon Academy for the National Theatre of Scotland/Visible Fictions’ Transform project in 2006. Recent commissions include the National Theatre of Scotland and Magnetic North.
