Communicado in a co-production with the Tron Theatre
By Nikolai Gogol, adapted by Adrian Mitchell
Directed by Gerry Mulgrew
Bribes, mis-directed contracts,mis-allocation of public money, fiddled expenses. Panic. Sound familiar?
Gerry Mulgrew directs this feisty adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s classic satire on bureaucracy and human vanity. A penniless nobody from the big city arrives in a small town, where he is mistaken for the all-powerful government inspector by its corrupt and self-serving officials. A hilarious and vicious exposé of those in (petty) power, in this age of abuses of office, banking crises and duck islands, The Government Inspector is more timely than ever.
One of Scotland ’s most respected and trailblazing theatre companies, Communicado, present The Government Inspector with all their well known brio and musical invention.
‘This period-set Government Inspector is not good, it's great.’ The Observer

'It is hard to think of a more pertinent play right now... there is no shortage of ingenious stage business' The Times

“ An exuberantly funny and inventive show... hilariously powerful and raucous live music. The whole show radiates that inspired collision of Scottish and European surrealism, tinged with furious satire, that made Mulgrew famous 25 years ago, and now seems reborn, for new times ' ****
