Fringe First Award Winner 2006

“There’s over a million diners tonight, or thereabouts, so if we run out of veal cheek they can have mine - I never liked my left side anyway.”

Top chef Frank Byrne has one ambition in life - to win the coveted third Michelin star for his restaurant. When he finally gets it, he becomes a world celebrity, adored and scrutinised by the media. But reaching the top comes at a price...

Set in the turbulent world of celebrity chefs, Food is a journey inside a man’s mind. It explores the compulsive nature of perfectionism and the sacrifices we have to make to realise our dreams. When you aim high, you’ve only got further to fall.

In 2002, theimaginarybody took Edinburgh by storm with the smash-hit 100, which won a Fringe First award for its evocative storytelling. The company’s particular style of narrative-driven visual theatre has won critical acclaim worldwide. Now they return to the festival with the world premiere of Food.

This play moved me more profoundly than anything I can remember seeing in theatre... a breathtaking play.
(The Scotsman on 100)

This is a show that you will carry around with you long after you have left the theatre... Tremendous visual flair and emotional nuance... Fascinating!
