WITHOUT A TRACE tells the true story of Maria Paradies, a brilliant blind pianist for whom Mozart composed a piano concerto. Various prestigious doctors in Vienna attempted to cure her of her blindness. One of them, the maverick Franz Mesmer, succeeded in doing so for a brief period, during which she lost her ability to play the piano. In seeking to normalise her, the medical establishment disabled her. When Maria regained her blindness, she recovered her artistry. |
